Muncie Brewfest

Category: Events — Ty @ 3:57 pm

Muncie Brewfest

Muncie has become the craft beer capital of Indiana, and there’s no better way to celebrate than to raise a glass – except maybe to raise 1,000 glasses.

Over 25 breweries will be represented, as well as area distributors, home brew and brewpub suppliers, and some of Muncie’s finest craft beer bars.

In addition to great beer, there will be great food, live music by Cory Hill and Mikey Mason, a homebrew competition and live airing of the the best podcast ever, The Good Beer Show – all included in your admission.

If a full day of tasting America’s best beers isn’t enough for you, the Fickle Peach will hosting a private VIP Reception, where you can mingle with brewers and beer geeks, taste some exclusive beers not available at the festival, and be the envy of all of your friends. Seating for this is very limited, so buy your tickets today. Visit munciebrewest.com, select the Beer Geek Package.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Muncie Historic Preservation Commission and Muncie Downtown Development.

  1. Arrived with Gary Demaree and my future son in law Nick K. at the brewfest at noon for the VIP segment and immediately began the sampling of 9 vintage brews that the CAV guys poured / discussed characteristics, alc %, fermentation technique, body complexity, hops, malts, etc. We had studied the beer list and projectd tasting around 25 beers at the event. Well, we were hurt in about 50 min with the CAV boys. Founders harvest ale and backwoods bastard bourbon barrel, Stone double bastard ale and old quardian barley wine, Breckenridge COL mighty brown and porter, Stone verticalEpic 08 belgium ipa – all
VIP.Then we hit the highlite of the day – the left hand brewery from COL. – Jackman pale, st. Vrain 2yr old belgium, milk stout with 7 malts, moo tooth black and tan (more cowbell)! Then over to Hoppin Frog Akron for Boris, Silk, B&T, Double IPA – all reasonable. Boulevard from KC – sixth glass belgium and double wide pale – interesting and good. Schlafly stlouis poured a bitter APA, tasty octoberfest, saison. Sunking from indy cream ale,Osiris pale, and wee mac scot ale were sampled. Then we went to CAV table to taste one beer and ended with 8 samples – of mention were honey basil, hebrew rejuviunator, hoss, barktoberfest and coney island freaktoberfest red …..help me…. over to monarch for sierre nev torpedo extra hpppy and sam adams double bock. Stopped at Sergeants for their lager and amber ale then did some lunch chased by a good ol schlitz beer. Back to the event – BBC table got us stoked on St. Mathews bourbon barrel, quad lambic, coffee stout, imperial stout – this really put some hurt on us. Then to Dogfish – lost my son in law here – no memory after this point almost 3 hrs in. Dogfish had a palto santo marzhon and the 90 min. Popped in at Brooklyn for local 1 and local 2, and a tasty black choc stout. Now on my third page of notes – stopped at Pyramid for sno-cap seattle/portland brew, then made the mistake of 3 floyds for \gumball head and robert the bruce scot ale. By now we are spinning a bit and nick k is in trouble. Why not stop in at
Founders for some hearty breakfast stout!! that pushed us over tdge now about 4:30pm – we headed out for T-shirts and then home . Doing the math – 47 beers – about 4 oz pour, about 12 pints consumed in about 4+ hours – with slightly high alc% for the tasty craft brews – all in all we learned alot, tasted some beers never seen before, renewed old beer memories from just a couple fav pours, saw alot of beer friends, and totally enjoyed ourselves!! Thanks to all that made it happen – esp the FP staff, the CAV guys, Left Hand guys for the cow bell, and by the way – my future son in law tried to hang with the big dogs – did not fair so well by 5pm – and never made it out of bed for the after party at the Peach – which is another story!!!!
